Wolves’ youngster joins Sheffield United after Arsenal trial | OneFootball

Following a trial with Arsenal and talks over a potential transfer, Wolverhampton Wanderers youth player Lennon Patterson ultimately opted to join Sheffield United.

Arsenal were definitely in the mix for the signing of Lennon Patterson from Wolves in recent months, having taken the defender on a trial in late 2024.

Patterson played for the Arsenal u21s in a fixture against Sunderland, and he spent time with the Arsenal senior squad a few times in December. After that, reports suggested talks were ongoing with Wolves over a potential transfer.

But the Gunners weren’t the only team involved, with Brighton also taking Patterson on a trial in October, and interest from Sheffield United. The Blades ultimately won the race this month.

Sheffield United confirmed that they’ve signed Patterson, adding that the left-back was “highly sought after” and that he’ll now join them for the remainder of their u21s’ Professional Development League campaign.

It’s not clear exactly when Arsenal’s interest ended, and whether they were in talks until the end or they decided to pull out following those conversations in December.

The Gunners are clearly still on the hunt for a youth left-back though, taking Marcell Washington on a trial from Chelsea for much of this month.

Before his trials with Brighton and Arsenal, Patterson had made around 30 appearances for Wolves’ u18s, dating back to his debut at that level in April 2022. He now has the chance to step up to u21 football with Sheffield United.
