Thrice-capped USMNT international Kevin Paredes has seen his comeback plans foiled yet again. Paredes’ Bundesliga club VfL Wolfsburg confirmed fresh shoulder surgery for the 22-year-old on Monday. Paredes will likely remain out of action for the duration of the 2025 calendar year.
Whether or not Paredes has much of a near-term future for either club or country at this point is questionable. The Virginia-native earned his last USMNT cap in November 2023. His current Wolfsburg contract expires at the end of the forthcoming Bundesliga campaign.
Paredes has scored four league goals and registered four assists in 54 Bundesliga appearances since joining the German Wolves on a €6.5m transfer from D.C. United in January 2022. His last foot surgery in November 2024 nevertheless limited him to just two appearances at the end of last season.
“It’s hard to go through this again,” Paredes noted in a statement released on his instagram feed. “Unfortunately, I had to undergo another operation on the same foot that put me out of action last season. But I remain focused on my recovery and am determined to come back stronger. I’ll be back soon, ready to give everything for my team!”
