Laura Wienroither says she didn’t have to think twice when she heard about the opportunity to make her loan move to City permanent.
The Austria international spent the second half of 2024/25 on loan from fellow Barclays Women’s Super League side Arsenal, featuring eight times.
But after leaving the Gunners this summer, she’s returned to the Joie Stadium on a permanent basis as City look to challenge for silverware under new Head Coach Andrée Jeglertz.
And Wienroither is excited to continue that journey, having found her feet so swiftly in Manchester back in January 2025.
Speaking of her permanent move to City, she said: “It means a lot. I really enjoyed the last six months, I feel like I’ve settled in well. I really like the girls, I really like the staff.
“I think it’s a good group of people here. Everyone is just looking out for each other and I’m honestly so happy to be staying here.
“I’d definitely say the people [were important in my decision]. They’ve welcomed me with open arms since my first day and I really appreciate that.
“There are great people here and it’s honestly such a cool club and I’ve really started to like the club from day one and I fell in love with the club.
“So, when the opportunity came up that I can stay, I didn’t have to think twice, it was a no-brainer for me. I’m so happy to be finally here.”
For Wienroither, the targets for the new season are simple: to compete for major honours.
City finished 2024/25 outside of the WSL European places, reaching the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals and FA Cup last four.
Defeat to Chelsea in the League Cup final summed up a frustrating campaign, compounded by an injury crisis, but our new defender is confident that City can go the distance this time round.
She added: “This club is made to win titles, to win trophies and I’m here to do that.
“The team definitely has the qualities and potential to do that, and we do have a very successful future ahead.”
