Serie A giants Roma picked up a 1-0 win over Pisa on Saturday, winning their second game in a row under new manager Gian Piero Gasperini.

Matias Soule’s second half goal was the difference-maker, as he sparkled in linking up with Evan Ferguson and Paulo Dybala. Many things now point towards the fact that this could be the Argentine’s season.

Stability

It was Soule’s second start in a row and it came when Roma were unchanged from the first game of the campaign. It doesn’t just show that he will be a regular in the first-team, but there is stability in the side that he can rely on.

That wasn’t really the case last season, when the Giallorossi struggled with having new managers and there was constant changes in the system.

The Gasp effect can fire Soule

Gasperini is shown to have brought the most out of attacking players who have a good 1v1 ability and have some element on unpredictability.

Soule is of the same bracket and he is younger than those who have thrived under Gasperini in the past. But he is someone who has been highly rated for a couple of seasons and more, having first shown his skillset properly at Frosinone.

It is clear that there is a lot of raw talent in the youngster and with regular game time, he will thrive.

Regular time

Soule was still settling into life in Rome in the first half of last season; so much so that there was talk of a sale to England. Claudio Ranieri played a key role in convincing him about staying, making it clear that he will be an important part of the side in the second half.

That is what happened and Soule came up with important goals and assists in Serie A and in the Europa League. After the initial season of settling in, he is now set to play regularly and Roma’s transfer market strategies also suggest that they are now on the lookout for options to bolster their depth.
