Reece James could be one of the unluckiest players in the history of the Premier League.

His injury record is horrendous. The last time the right-back played more than 15 games in a season was in 2022.

On his day and fully fit, he can easily be considered one of the best full-backs in the world. However, injury is hindering his progress and ultimately his career.

As a result, this could simultaneously cost Liverpool dearly as Real Madrid search for new defenders.

Trent to become main target?

Real Madrid are reportedly massive admirers of Reece James. He has been on the Spanish giants' radar for quite some time now.

Dani Carvajal has continued to impress for Real, but they will be looking into options to replace him for the long term, with James being the priority.

HITC have recently reported that the 24-year-old is on the top of their list, but he needs to improve his fitness if he has any chance of moving to the European champions and they may not even entertain a move if they don’t see any changes.

Reece is currently nursing a hamstring injury which he has not recovered from as quickly as anticipated with no signs of an imminent return.

This could spell bad news for the Reds. With the Chelsea player's continuous injury issues, Real may look elsewhere for a new right-back, with Trent Alexander-Arnold being that option.

Trent’s ongoing contract situation is a problem for Liverpool. He has already been linked to Madrid because of the lack of negotiations for a new deal and partly due to his good relationship with fellow England teammate and Galactico midfielder, Jude Bellingham.

Trent recently commented on working with Arne Slot saying he was "excited" about the new plans for the season, giving some indication about where his future may lie.

Reds supporters will be hoping that Madrid pursue with their deal for James, but if he continues to be unfit, Trent’s time on Merseyside may be coming to an end sooner rather than later.
