During what has been a special inaugural campaign in Southern California, Mikey Varas, and his rip-roaring SDFC outfit, have lit up the competition from their power base at Snapdragon Stadium and beyond while currently sitting second in the conference.

With so much talk surrounding Hirving Lozano joining their ranks before the season began, it's been Danish international winger Anders Dreyer who has been the toast of the town in SoCal.

After 17 matchdays in the books, the former Anderlecht star has banked 14 goal contributions in MLS, including a league-leading eight assists, while sitting level with Philadelphia Union hitman Tai Baribo and just two off pace-setter Lionel Messi (16).

It has been a superb first season in the US for the diminutive forward, one where he already endeared himself to club supporters when he bagged a brace in the club's first-ever league fixture during their 2-0 win over LA Galaxy.

His stunning MLS debut was a sign of things to come from the 27-year-old Bramming native, with Dreyer going on to put in influential performances nearly every week.

Beyond his direct contributions on the scoresheet, Dreyer's 43 key passes are bettered by only Cristian Espinoza (53), Albert Rusnák (49), Martín Ojeda (47), and Jack McGlynn (47), while impressively boasting a very competitive A/90min (0.48).

As a signing that largely flew under the radar of league fans and pundits alike, Dreyer is unquestionably staking a claim for MVP honors should San Diego's season continue on its current course and heading.
