Atletico Madrid President Enrique Cerezo has admitted that Milan’s move for Spain captain Alvaro Morata ‘bothers’ the club, as he is a ‘fantastic player and magnificent person’.

Cerezo also admitted that Morata’s move to San Siro is ‘seemingly’ imminent, just hours after the 31-year-old lifted the European Championship trophy at Berlin’s Olympiastadion following Sunday night’s 2-1 defeat over England.

What Atletico President said about Morata

“It seems so,” Cerezo said when asked if Morata is heading for Milan.

“Those who don’t want to stay can leave. It bothers us because Alvaro is a fantastic player and a magnificent person,” he added, reported via Calciomercato.

Multiple outlets in Italy also report that Morata will officially become a Milan player in the coming days, while Sky Sport Italia note that Rossoneri directors will fly over to Spain either on Wednesday or Thursday to complete the final formalities of the transfer.

The Spaniard is available on a €13m release clause, however, Milan could still attempt to renegotiate the fee, which could result in them paying a higher total sum but split over multiple instalments.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic, meanwhile, has pledged to match the player’s salary demands in order to bring him back to Serie A.
