La Liga champions Barcelona will be forced to fork over a fee to Manchester United, if they decide against making Marcus Rashford’s transfer permanent next summer.
That’s according to market insider Fabrizio Romano, who has provided an insight into the situation.
Frontman Rashford is of course set to be presented as the latest member of Hansi Flick’s Barcelona squad at any moment.
This comes after the Blaugrana agreed on the terms of a one-year loan deal with both the 27-year-old, and parent club Man United.
Barca’s deal for Rashford features an option to buy, set to become active in the summer of 2026.
As alluded to above, though, even in the case of opting against activating as much, the Camp Nou brass will be forced to pay up.
As revealed by journalist Fabrizio Romano, speaking on his official YouTube channel this week, a ‘penalty’ clause was inserted in the deal between Barcelona and United.
This clause details that, should they turn down their option to buy, the Blaugrana will be required to fork over a fee as ‘punishment’.
Though the exact details of the fee involved are unclear, it is understood to come in below the €5 million mark.
