Serie A side AS Roma have reportedly stepped up their interest in Matt O’Riley. Celtic will be on alert regarding the future of O’Riley after selling him to Brighton last summer and inserting a sell-on clause in the £25m fee.
Celtic have benefited from their sell-on clauses as recently as this summer with Jeremie Frimpong making his move to Liverpool. The Scottish Champions will not be too pleased if Brighton opt to sell the Dane this summer as it means that the club will likely not net a sizeable fee from the resale.
Everton have expressed an interest in O’Riley and there are a number of Serie A sides that would also be eager to take the player. No doubt O’Riley may be tempted by the opportunities if it affords him the chance to play in his preferred position.
Ange signed O’Riley for £1.5m in the January of 2022 with the MK Dons youngster helping Celtic overtake Rangers in a memorable midweek Glasgow Derby win and then hold onto the top spot for the next two seasons, leaving Celtic with three league titles, two Scottish Cups and one League Cup. The Danish Internationalist completed a £25m+ move in the summer after an incredible individual season, which concluded with Brendan Rodgers’ side winning a League and Cup Double. O’Riley left Celtic having made 124 appearances, scoring 27 times and assisting on 35 occasions.
