Joao Felix has revealed a return to Benfica this summer is his priority with the forward set to leave Chelsea a year after joining.

Chelsea paid £45m to sign Felix from Atletico Madrid last summer, and the Portugal international penned a seven year deal at Stamford Bridge.

Felix made 20 appearances over the first half of the season, with 12 of those in the Premier League, although only three were starts.

Felix wants to return to Benfica

A lack of first team action led to Felix deciding he wanted to leave in January and he eventually joined AC Milan on loan.

Despite scoring on his debut things went downhill pretty quickly and he scored just three goals in 21 appearances in all competitions.

Milan made it clear they wouldn’t be signing Felix on a permanent basis, and the 25-year-old has been linked with a host of clubs.

It remains to be seen where the Portuguese will end up, but he’s revealed his preference is to return to Benfica.

“Seeing Bruno Lage the coach, who I know and was important for my career, earns points in my decision [over future] and I see with good eyes returning to Benfica. And it is, maybe, where I am most inclined,” he told Portuguese outlet A Bola via X.com.

Felix started his career at Benfica before earning a big money move to Atletico Madrid, and Mark Brus of Caught Offside reported a month ago that the Portuguese giants were progressing with talks.

Christopher Nkunku set to leave

Felix isn’t the only attacker likely to leave, with Christopher Nkunku also set for a Stamford Bridge exit this summer.

Nkunku attracted interested from Bayern Munich and Manchester United in January, and it’s believed the Red Devils have been quoted £35m to sign the 27-year-old.

The France international signed for Chelsea in a deal worth £52m in 2023, but it’s hard to see the Blues getting near what they paid given Nkunku’s failed to live up to expectations.
