New Real Madrid signing Dean Huijsen has secured for himself an immediate piece of history in Spain’s capital.
This of course comes fresh off the 20-year-old’s move to the Santiago Bernabéu being made official.
The name of defender Huijsen has positioned itself centre stage in the media headlines in Madrid over the course of the week to date.
This comes after word was forthcoming that Florentino Pérez and co. had made the call to go all out to bring the Bournemouth starlet in with a view to next season.
On Saturday, such efforts, in turn, bore fruit, with Real Madrid having announced across the club’s social media platforms that:
‘Real Madrid C.F. and AFC Bournemouth have reached an agreement for the transfer of Dean Huijsen, who will be linked to our club for the next five seasons, from 1 June 2025 to 30 June 2030.’
Los Blancos have agreed to pay the entirety of Huijsen’s €58 million Bournemouth release clause to make the move a reality.
Where, though, does this place the Spanish international when it comes to the most expensive defenders in the history of Europe’s most successful club?
The answer? At the very top.
€58 million is the most Real Madrid have ever paid for a defensive player, €8 million more than they splashed out for previous record-holder Éder Militão back in 2019.
