Milan have not yet reached a formal agreement over the appointment of a new sporting director, despite an in-depth meeting with frontrunner Igli Tare on Tuesday, but updates suggest that the former Lazio executive will sign on the dotted line in the near future.

Tare is currently the clear favourite to become the new sporting director of the Rossoneri. Milan had originally looked at former Juventus director Fabio Paratici, but later dropped him due to legal complications.

There had also been links with Giovanni Manna of Napoli, Tony D’Amico of Atalanta and Giovanni Sartori of Bologna, but all are still under contract with their current employers and not in any immediate rush to leave.

This places Tare in a favourable position given that he is free to begin work immediately, having left Lazio in 2023.

On Tuesday, Tare and Milan CEO Giorgio Furlani had a long, in-depth meeting that lasted well over four hours according to various outlets in Italy.

A formal agreement over the Albanian’s appointment has not yet been reached, but reports from La Repubblica claim that Tare could be ready to sign the deal after his next meeting with the club, which could come in the next few weeks.

Reports earlier in April confirm that former Juventus head coach Massimiliano Allegri is Tare’s first-choice head coach to lead the Rossoneri into the 2025-26 campaign.
