The final Merseyside Derby set to be played at Goodison Park was postponed due to Storm Darragh, meaning the game will need to be rearranged for a later date.

The cancelation gives both sides an extra rest during a hectic December schedule, potentially benefitting them in the short-term but could prove a disadvantage later on in the season.

Liverpool’s involvement in the Champions League and the Carabao Cup, and both teams’ involvement in the FA Cup in January narrows down the dates available for when the game can be rescheduled.

A busy January means the game likely will not be replayed until February. The game could be played on February 4 or 5 but that date would become unavailable if Liverpool reach the semi-finals of the Carabao Cup, with the Reds facing Southampton in the quarter-final.

If Liverpool avoid a Champions League knockout play-off, which looks likely based on their form in the competition so far, the Merseyside derby could be played on February 11 or 12 or February 18 or 19, when the Champions League play-offs are scheduled for. February 11 or 12 would be preferable, with the latter dates meaning Liverpool would have to play an intense rivalry clash ahead of playing champions Man City, which could pose an unwanted challenge for Arne Slot and his side.

The rest of the calendar is subject to plenty of change, depending on how the clubs fare in the cup competitions. There is a a two-week international break in March and Liverpool could also find themselves in the Carabao Cup final on March 16. They also look set to face a two-legged last-16 clash in the Champions League, with those matches scheduled for 4/5 and 11/12 March.
