Multiple outlets claim that Sergio Conceicao’s future as head coach of Milan is now effectively over following the team’s 1-0 loss against Bologna in the final of the Coppa Italia on Wednesday night, even though he is set to remain in charge for the last two games of the season.

Milan were beaten by a single goal from Dan Ndoye, which confirmed a 1-0 victory for Bologna in the Coppa Italia final on Wednesday night, the club’s first major title in 51 years.

Milan, who were crowned Supercoppa Italiana champions in Conceicao’s first two matches in charge back in January, are now at risk of missing out on European football altogether next season as they currently sit in eighth place in Serie A with two games to go.

Winning the Coppa Italia would have guaranteed Europa League qualification, but now it looks like the Rossoneri will have to settle for either the Conference League, or no European football at all.

What the press says about Conceicao’s future with Milan

The majority of Thursday’s Italian papers claim that Conceicao’s journey with Milan has effectively come to an end after the Coppa Italia final loss, even though there are not expected to be any changes in the dugout in the immediate future.

Corriere dello Sport claims that it is ‘game over’ for Conceicao in San Siro, while the front page of Thursday’s edition of Tuttosport claims that the coach’s departure is a ‘certainty at this point’.

La Gazzetta dello Sport insists that Conceicao ‘will leave’ unless there are a series of improbable twists in the final two games of the season. The Pink Paper indicates that the coach will not be the only one to go, as Kyle Walker, Joao Felix and possibly Mike Maignan, Theo Hernandez, Malick Thiaw and/or Fikayo Tomori could be shown the exit.
