West Ham are aiming to win three successive meetings with Southampton for the first time since 2020; the Saints have lost five of their last six trips to East London.
It's been a pretty miserable season for both, claiming just 11 Premier League victories between them, so will either enjoy a rare win on Saturday? West Ham United were not planning on being 17th come Easter weekend, albeit the fact they're 14 points clear of danger means this isn't as alarming a scenario as it sounds.
Last Sunday, the Hammers actually played really well and appeared to have pinched a point at Anfield, equalising in the 86th minute, only for Liverpool to snatch victory straight after. Graham Potter's team are now winless in five, claiming victory from only three of his 12 Premier League fixtures in charge, although this surely has to be a golden opportunity to improve that ratio.
As for Southampton, they were smashed yet again last weekend, this time demolished 3-0 by Aston Villa, despite the fact Aaron Ramsdale saved not one but two penalties. The Saints have therefore taken just one point from their last eight matches, needing only one more point to avoid equalling Derby's record for the fewest number of points collected in a Premier League season, namely 11. Nevertheless, despite their own miserable campaign, a West Ham win seems likely.
Aaron Cresswell, Crysencio Summerville and Michail Antonio remain sidelined, but Graham Potter does now have the option to start an out-and-out centre-forward, given that Niclas Füllkrug, who scored in their last home game, is back fit.
Since taking over, Potter has predominantly deployed a back five but, given their opposition, he'll surely considering a more attacking formation.
West Ham United predicted lineup vs Southampton: (4-3-3): Areola; Wan-Bissaka, Kilman, Todibo, Scarles; Souček, Ward-Prowse, Paquetá; Kudus, Bowen, Füllkrug.
James Ward-Prowse made 410 appearances for Southampton, having joined as a nine year old, although this'll be the first time he's ever faced them.
Simon Rusk remains in interim charge, albeit he deployed a similarly defensive system to the one deployed by Ivan Jurić. Flynn Downes can return to face his former club following a two-match suspension, but Paul Onuachu hobbled off against Aston Villa, making him a doubt, so Cameron Archer is expected to lead the line.
Southampton predicted lineup vs West Ham United: (5-3-2): Ramsdale; Walker-Peters, Stephens, Harwood-Bellis, Bednarek, Manning; Downes, Fernandes, Dibling, Sulemana; Archer.
Kamaldeen Sulemana has been amongst Southampton's most impressive players this season, likely to be their most dangerous attacking threat.
We are backing West Ham for a very comfortable victory. The Hammers have been far from impressive this season, but they are playing Southampton: West Ham United 3-0 Southampton.
