West Ham United have agreed a deal to sign experienced striker Callum Wilson on a free transfer, according to The Athletic.
Wilson attracted interest from Leeds United and Saudi Pro League clubs, but West Ham have won the race.
The 33-year-old forward, who has been a consistent Premier League performer over the years when fit, scored 49 goals in 130 matches across all competitions for Newcastle.
Wilson was available on a free transfer after his contract with Newcastle expired at the end of June.
He will move to London on a one-year deal structured to include a modest base salary complemented by performance-based bonuses on goals and appearances.
This incentive-based approach makes the signing a low-risk move for West Ham, providing them with a proven goalscorer who can contribute immediately.
West Ham have been a little short in the centre-forward department of late following Michail Antonio’s period of absence after his car accident and Danny Ings’ departure.
This left manager Graham Potter with Niclas Fullkrug as his only senior striker option.
West Ham may pursue another striker after Wilson’s arrival, given recent speculation of a swoop for Roma’s Artem Dovbyk.
They are expected to bring in multiple midfielders before the transfer window closes and have been linked with Fabio Vieira and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall.
