West Ham striker Niclas Fullkrug criticised his team-mates following their 1-1 draw with already relegated Southampton at home and says his side’s performance left him “very angry”.

Jarrod Bowen opened the scoring for the Hammers shortly after half-time but the Saints equalised in the 93rd minute through on-loan Chelsea midfielder Lesley Ugochukwu.

It means Graham Potter’s side are now winless in their last six games and sit 16th in the Premier League.

And Fullkrug could not hide his frustration with the performance.

“It’s a mindset problem, I’m very angry today,” he told Sky Sports.

“I’m not disappointed, I’m just angry about what we did after the goal.

“It was difficult to bring the boys back to push up. We didn’t push up anymore. We tried but we didn’t have the ability or the motivation to push up again.

“I’m very, very angry that we played like this because we had some moments where we showed what we can do. I think there were 25 or 30 minutes in the second half that were very good. We showed that we had very good possession, that we can go in behind, we had chances to score again.

“But the motivation was so s*** after and I’m very angry.”

Fullkrug was a summer signing under former boss Julen Lopetegui but has endured a frustrating first season with the Hammers because of injury problems.

He has returned to action recently, however, and set up Bowen’s opener before West Ham were forced to settle for a point.

“It’s not the first time that we score a goal and the next goal-kick we just shoot the ball now, we don’t try to play football anymore, we don’t push up anymore, we just sit,” he continued.

“That’s not the way we want to play. Why can we play 65 minutes before with possession, even if it’s not perfect?

“We tried to play with possession, we tried to create chances, we tried to score. Then we score a goal and half of the team try to score again and the other half of the team just try to defend very deep.

“That’s not the way it works. We have to find a way to have togetherness, to have the idea of where we want to go, what we want to do. The coach was very clear what he wants but everyone has to do it.”
