West Ham are hoping to capitalise on the breakdown of Manchester United’s move for Jean-Clair Todibo to sign the centre-back from Nice.

Manchester United had agreed a deal to sign Todibo from the French side, though saw the move blocked by UEFA due to shared ownership.

Ineos, who have purchased minority stake in Manchester United and have taken over football operations, also own the Ligue 1 outfit and UEFA are looking to halt player trading between linked clubs in the same competition. United and Nice have both qualified for the Europa League in 2024-25.

West Ham are looking to capitalise and have seen an opening bid for the France international turned down. The initial proposal was worth €35m (£29.6m) according to French publication L’ÉQUIPE, and the Hammers are expected to return with an improved bid.

The signing of Todibo would represent a significant coup for new West Ham head coach Julen Lopetegui.

The 24-year-old made his senior debut for France in September 2023 and led Ligue 1 for progressive carrying distance last season. Nice, who finished fifth, had the best defensive record in France’s top tier.
