West Ham United are weighing up a move for Feyenoord midfielder Quinten Timber, according to Sky Sport Germany journalist Florian Plettenberg.
The Hammers have lost both of their opening league fixtures and were also eliminated from the League Cup in midweek.
The defeats have highlighted the squad’s lack of depth.
The Hammers are not only looking at Timber, but are also close to signing Soungoutou Magassa from Monaco.
The club’s management feels additional reinforcements are required to help Graham Potter’s side get back on track.
Bundesliga outfit Bayer Leverkusen are also keen on bringing the Dutch midfielder to Germany.
Leverkusen view Timber as a priority signing, especially with the growing expectation that Alex Garcia could depart.
Talks are already underway between Leverkusen and the player’s representatives.
Timber has built a strong reputation in the Eredivisie for his all-round qualities in midfield.
He is described as a complete box-to-box player who thrives when carrying the ball forward.
The 24-year-old operates in a more advanced role. He is known for his ability to drive into the final third, make third-man runs and deliver powerful shots when in sight of goal.
His control, movement and agility make him hard to stop, while his ball-carrying skills regularly draw fouls from opponents.
Timber would provide West Ham with much-needed dynamism in midfield. However, with Leverkusen pushing strongly, the race to sign him remains wide open.
