“We’re going back angry”: Andre Onana summarises the feeling in the Man United dressing room after draw vs. Fenerbahce | OneFootball

Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana has revealed the feeling in the dressing room following another disappointing Europa League result.

United were held to a 1-1 draw by Fenerbahce at the Sukru Saracoglu Stadium.

Christian Eriksen put the Red Devils into the driving seat after 15 minutes with a classy finish. However, the hosts battled back and restored parity just after the break courtesy of Youssef En-Nesyri’s header.

It could have been much worse for United but for a brilliant double save by Onana in the first half.

After the match, the goalkeeper spoke to TNT Sports and gave his verdict on the match.

He said, “It’s a big disappointment for me, for the fans, for the club. As a Manchester United player, you have an obligation to try and win and that’s what we did today.”

“But we also have to recognise that it’s a tough place to win and we didn’t win but at least we didn’t lose. I’m not happy but we move on. We’re big guys, we take responsibility, me being the first one and we go again.”

The Cameroonian praised the way he and his teammates responded to their early setback in the second half. When asked where Ten Hag instructed them to play smart, Onana replied, “I think yes.”

“We had more control than them and more chances than them, football sometimes there is randomness, we conceded early in the second half, and we had to show character and this is what we did. Unfortunately, we didn’t win but we were better than them.”

On his heroic double-save, “For me those saves aren’t important. The most important thing is the victory of the team. It’s always nice to make these kinds of saves and the team wins. Today, we’re all going back angry because we came to win, even if you play against a tough opponent.”

Onana was asked about Noussair Mazraoui’s role in midfield.

“Every player can play every position, Mazraoui is one of them, he did a good job, we’re happy with him and his performance.”

“He used to play there when he was younger, sometimes we have to be pragmatic. Players are missing and sometimes we have to step up and that is what Mazraoui did, he was brilliant for the team because the team needed him there.”

Up next for United is a Sunday trip to the capital to face Julen Lopetegui’s West Ham.
