‘We will see’: Amorim leaves door open for 11-touch struggler’s exit, his agent has just opened talks with another club | OneFootball

Six days into the January window, Manchester United are yet to sanction any business in or out.

That could all be about to change heading into the first full week, however, as Joshua Zirkzee’s agent is now reportedly ‘in talks’ over a potential switch to Juventus, according to journalist Nicolo Schira.

It’s a prospective move that’s seemingly been in the pipeline for the last few months and one that would see the forward look to revive his stagnant form under a familiar face – in the form of ex-Bologna coach Thiago Motta – in familiar surroundings: Serie A.

Should any deal come to fruition, it may see Zirkzee pull the curtains on his Premier League career after only six months, as United are only interested in negotiations regarding a permanent transfer or loan with an obligation to buy at the end of the campaign.

You’d expect that a replacement would be necessary if that were the case, so the two clubs must advance swiftly in order to ensure INEOS have enough time to scour the market for an attacking signing.

All parties would concede that Zirkzee’s United tenure has subceeded expectations after his £36.5 million move from Bologna. He’s registered only four goals in 28 appearances thus far, and after being jeered off by supporters at Old Trafford a week ago, his confidence is likely shot to pieces.

Travelling fans in attendance at Anfield on Sunday were quick to voice their support for the 23-year-old after a torrid week by singing his name while he warmed up and when he entered the fray in the closing stages. Ultimately, though, he featured for only 11 minutes, made 12 touches and lost possession six times.

Ruben Amorim was pressed on the Dutchman’s uncertain future post-match – and seemingly left the door open to his exit.

“I want to keep Josh Zirkzee because he gives everything,” the boss said, as cited by Fabrizio Romano. “He’s trying in training but we don’t know. The window is open… we will see what happens.”
