The Toffees take on The Reds in-front of a bumper crowd at Goodison Park on Sunday afternoon.
Everton are yet to win a game in the Barclays Women’s Super League this season. When speaking in the pre-match press conference, manager Sørenson said that he is hoping that the high-pressure derby match is the place to get off the mark.
“We want to win this so badly,” Sørensen said. “It’s a derby, but we also want to get the first win of the season. We are hoping to get that success and kick-start the season.”
Sørensen went on to speak about the strength within the Liverpool team. He believes that squad depth is the main difference between The Reds and his own side.
He said “I think they’ve recruited very well, they bought in Olivia Smith. It’s a good team and they have that solid base and in-behind with their centre-backs.
“I think their performances this season have been much similar to us. They probably have a bit more in their squad. Even if they have a couple of injuries, they’ve got a bit more depth to play, so we just have to be very solid for the 90 minutes.”
Everton will contest a Merseyside derby at Goodison Park for the final time this weekend. Sørensen says that the big occasion will bring some nerves but his side will be focused on the task at hand.
He said “When I started looking at English football as a young kid, you always heard how tough it was to go and play at Goodison Park, it’s legendary. I think everyone wants to play at an iconic stadium.
“I think we look at who’s available and how we can put the best team out to hurt Liverpool in the right moments. Everyone, even Meg [Finnigan], who’s the one who has done this the most, would go into this a bit nervous. It’s such an important game, not only for where we are in the league but also what it means for the fans and everyone in and around Everton. We will try to focus on the task ahead and how we get the win.”
