Markus Krösche, Dino Toppmöller and Kevin Trapp reflect on the goalless draw at FC Augsburg.

Board member for sport Markus Krösche: “Our frustrating exit [from the Europa League] on Thursday was still hanging over our heads. We were too slow and sluggish – it wasn’t a good performance in the first half. However, our reaction in the second half was very, very good and we could even have won the game. Kevin Trapp played really well after his long absence through injury. He was a calm presence and obviously pulled off a huge save at the end.”

Head coach Dino Toppmöller: “It wasn’t a great first half. We were really poor on the ball and kept letting Augsburg create chances by giving the ball away. We reacted well in the second half. Kevin Trapp produced a sensational save to deny [Phillip] Tietz at the end and preserve the clean sheet. Getting a point and not coming away from here with a defeat is extremely important, particularly from a psychological point of view. We reacted well, got the point and we can move on to next week.”

Kevin Trapp: “Things change very quickly in football – I know that. It’s clearly very sad for Kaua [Santos], but he’s dealt with his injury well. I’m obviously delighted to be back between the sticks, but every single one of us now needs to do whatever is best for the team. We can achieve something special, and everyone has to give their all for us to achieve that success. Even though we played on Thursday, we pulled up well today and dominated the second half. As for our unfortunate exit and the injuries to Kaua and Mario [Götze] – we’re a very young team, and the fact we can take these disappointments and setbacks in our stride speaks volumes. Our performance was another step in the right direction. I have a lot of responsibility – I’m captain and obviously want to help the team.”
