‘We can be there’… Lamine Yamal believes Barcelona can lift the UCL trophy this season | OneFootball

To say that their last few campaigns in the UEFA Champions League have been underwhelming would be an understatement for a club as big as FC Barcelona.

The Catalans showed some improvement in the last season when they reached the quarter-finals of the competition, but were eliminated by Paris Saint Germain. In the two previous seasons, they had failed even to make it to the knock-out rounds of the competition.

However, this season, the Blaugranes are looking to be one of the most competitive teams in this competition. They showcased their mettle in the League Phase of the competition, where they finished second in the rankings, behind only Liverpool. As a result, Barcelona are safely one of the favorites to win this competition this season.

As Fabrizio Romano has reported, Lamine Yamal himself believed that his team was among the favorites to lift the trophy at the end of this season, as he appeared in a recent interview. Talking about the UCL, the young winger said:

“I think that only Liverpool are more favorites than us in the Champions League… as they arrived first… We can compete to win it. We can be there.”

With the way the Blaugranes have been playing, Yamal definitely has the right to dream big for this competition. Hansi Flick’s side has played especially well in the top European competition, beating the likes of Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund in the League Phase.

There is no doubt that things will start getting even more difficult from the Round of 16 onwards, as only the best of the very best teams remain alive in the competition.

However, Barcelona and Yamal have given enough reason for their fans to hope for a successful run in the competition, and hopefully, they will return to the summit of European football at the end of this season.
