A number of Chelsea players got major praise for their showings last night.

Estevao Willian got the man of the match award. Joao Pedro was top of the stats. But as always, there was an unsung hero in midfield doing the dirty work and making a platform for those attacking players to shine.

Moises Caicedo put in another superb showing last night against the Hammers, reminding everyone of what he can do. His highlights from the game show you everything you want from your midfielder – crunching tackles, clever forward passes, strength under pressure and an opportunistic goal.

There’s even the hilarious sight of him exchanging 9 passes of less than 3 yards with Enzo Fernandez in the centre circle as they wait for a mentally broken West Ham to step up and challenge them.

Caicedo ended the game with 3 tackles, a clearance and a block, completing 77 passes. His WhoScored rating at the end was 7.72.

Caicedo only just getting started ahead of huge season

Let’s face it, that West Ham team could end up being one of the poorest sides we play all season. There will be far tougher tests to come for Caicedo. But the beautiful thing about him is that he tends to shine just as much in hard games as easy games.

Last season we finally got to really see what he was all about and he has already established himself as one of the best central midfielders in the Premier League.

Now, with Champions League football to come, he can prove that he’s one of the best in the world too. It’s starting to look like he has the team around him to do just that.
