Napoli star Scott McTominay scored the first goal of the new Serie A campaign in the season opener away at Sassuolo.

Scotland international McTominay scored the first goal of the season in Serie A, allowing his club Napoli to break the deadlock at minute 17 against newly promoted side Sassuolo.

The former Manchester United star squeezed past Sassuolo defenders at the far post, beating Stefano Turati with a towering header from a Matteo Politano cross from the right.

McTominay started as a left winger in the Napoli XI, allowing Antonio Conte to field Frank Anguissa, Stan Lobotka and Kevin De Bruyne simultaneously.
