We’ve been writing about the 4-2 game which happened on this day back in 1979. Bobby Lennox is of course remembered for the 1967 European Cup win in Lisbon and rightly so, but he also played his part when Ten Men Won the League, coming off the bench to help Celtic as we chased goals to win the title.

The bond between Jamesy and The Buzzbomb here is extra-special and the admiration that Jamesy has for the Lisbon Lion is something to behold. It’s what you would expect from you or me, ordinary Celtic supporters but here we have Celtic’s two most decorated players.

There was a bit of a debate on whether Jamesy is the most decorated player on social media over the past few days with some arguing that Bobby Lennox has a European Cup winners medal in his collection while Jamesy’s are all domestic medals. How really cares? Both are top Celtic legends worthy of all the appreciation that they receive from the Celtic family.

James Forrest goal on Saturday also meant that achieved his own personal target of scoring in 15 consecutive seasons for Celtic and it also took this Celtic side ahead of the Lisbon Lions scoring achievements in the league in season 1966/67. Or did it?

Yes this Celtic team scored one more league goal than the class of 1966/67 – and boy did they have class – but it took them 38 games while the Lions only had 34. Give the Lisbon Lions four extra games in that season and it’s a fair bet to say that they’d have scored at least twice!

So records can be debates but our heroes must be celebrated. It was so fitting that in recent weeks James Forrest has at last received the acknowledgement and the love from the Celtic support that he richly deserves. That goal on Saturday was as loud as any you’ll ever hear at Paradise.

And we were cheering for you Jamesy.

By the way, a word about the Celtic Chairman Peter Lawwell, who usually only gets a mention when there are things to moan about that most of the time has nothing to do with him. He is first class dealing with the Lisbon Lions and always goes the extra-mile while never seeking any recognition for it. This was not always the case at Celtic. Peter is outstanding here.
