As reported by Kicker, VfB Stuttgart are demanding a “three-digit million figure” for in-form striker Nick Woltemade.
The German international has agreed personal terms with Bayern and has expressed interest in moving to Munich this summer. This comes after a DFB Pokal-winning season with Stuttgart and now reaching the U21 Euro final with Germany this week.
However, with three years remaining on his current contract and with no release clause, the ball is firmly in Stuttgart’s court.
Bayern were thinking that they could secure the signing of Woltemade this summer with a fee of around €50m-€60m. However, that idea soon went south with VfB slapping an eye-watering €100m fee for the player.
Woltemade has only been at Stuttgart for one season, having signed for the Swabians on a free transfer from Werder Bremen.
There is no question that the 23-year-old is talented, but the rush to move to Bayern and only be used mainly from the bench doesn’t quite add up.
It all depends on how badly the player wants the move this summer. He could go on strike at VfB, but that seems unlikely, and the player would not want to ruin his reputation at the club where he made a name for himself.
All indications so far point to Woltemade staying at least another season with Stuttgart unless they lower their transfer fee expectations.
