Vasco mark anniversary with first step towards new stadium

The reform project of São Januário took its first concrete and visible step on this Thursday. Coinciding with the 127th anniversary of the club, Vasco da Gama started the first soil studies on the lawn. The analysis is fundamental to defining technical details of the work, such as the type of foundation needed, which will directly impact the cost and final capacity of the arena.

Soil survey study is carried out

The 2nd Vice-President General of Vasco da Gama, Renato Brito Neto, who is in charge of the project, explained the process in a video. He classified the action as the "kickoff" of the reform. The VP stated:

“We're here on our lawn (…) doing the first study with a view to reforming São Januário. The people are here behind, already working since early in what we call soil survey and foundation. What's this for? So we can understand what's underneath the lawn.”

This technical study is a crucial stage of planning. The results will make up the financial study that is already underway. Renato Brito emphasized the importance of this phase. He stated:

“This will also be very important to know the cost. Depending on the type of foundation and the type of structure that will be necessary, there may be a cost variation, and the capacity also varies.”

Vasco's board remains confident in the project

After the soil survey, the next step will be a study with drones of the entire region surrounding the stadium. Despite the complexity of the process, the director showed himself to be very optimistic.
