The region's biggest rivalry resumes when the United States and Mexico clash in the 2025 Concacaf Gold Cup final on Sunday evening at NRG Stadium.

Mexico have won a Gold Cup-best nine titles, including the most recent edition in 2023. Meanwhile, the US have the second-most Gold Cup titles (seven) and last won the regional tournament in 2021.

Mexico are just 90 minutes away from capturing their record 10th Gold Cup title.

Thanks to a follow-up finish from Toluca midfielder Alexis Vega and an own goal, head coach Javier Aguirre's side earned a 2-0 quarterfinal win over guest nation Saudi Arabia.

Come the semifinals, a 50th-minute tally from Fulham striker Raúl Jiménez made the difference in a 1-0 victory against Honduras. Club Tijuana midfielder Gilberto Mora, a 16-year-old rising star, supplied the assist.

With momentum on their side, Mexico are one step away from their second regional trophy in three-plus months after winning the 2024-25 Concacaf Nations League in March.
