In a recent post on X, journalist Sebastien Vidal offered an update on Chelsea and their pursuit of Red Bull Leipzig talent Xavi Simons. It has been claimed that the Blues are willing to offer Christopher Nkunku plus cash to sign the Dutch attacker this off-season.
Simons had a decent campaign at the German club recently as he was responsible for putting in a series of impressive displays for them in the final third. The 22-year-old registered 11 goals and earned eight assists in 33 appearances for RB Leipzig last season in various competitions.
The Dutch playmaker managed to prove his worth in the opponent’s half by averaging 2.09 shots per 90 minutes in the Bundesliga. He was even careful when distributing possession in the final third, as evidenced by his pass completion rate of 78.6% in the German top tier (stats via fbref.com).
His current contract at the Red Bull Arena will run out in the summer of 2027. Therefore, Chelsea have got no choice but to make a convincing offer if they are serious about signing him in this transfer window.

Simons is a good dribbler with the ball at his feet and has got the eye to play some decisive passes in and around the opponent’s penalty area. He can shoot the ball with power from long range and can contribute by scoring and creating his fair share of goals in the final third.
The Dutch sensation is primarily an attacking midfielder but can also function as a wide player if asked to do so. However, there are some concerns over whether he can adapt to the physical side and high intensity of the Premier League if the Blues manage to get him on board this summer.
We can expect Simons to inject more goals and creativity into Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca’s frontline. He is good enough to serve as a good rotational piece in the West London club’s match-day squad.
At 22, Simons has got a bright future ahead of him. Hence, it makes sense for Maresca to try everything in his power to snap him up in this transfer window.
