Celtic’s Daizen Maeda has been recognised by the UEFA Champions League Official Twitter page for his performances so far this season. The Japanese attacker has been recognised for boasting the best sprinting stats in Europe’s top competition.
In an update on Wednesday evening, UCL recognised Daizen for his sprinting exploits alongside stats recognising Erling Haaland, Joshua Kimmich and Vini Jr.
The incredible stat shows that Maeda has completed 208 sprints in the six games so far in the new-look format. Brendan Rodgers has previously called him ‘the instigator’, stating that the 27-year-old is key to pressing opponents into forcing mistakes.
Maeda earned the MotM accolade in Celtic’s 1-1 draw with Club Brugge at the end of November. The winger will be keen to help Celtic secure their passage into the knockout round of with a victory over Young Boys in a fortnight.
Maeda has scored 14 goals and assisted on 6 occasions this season in 29 appearances in all competitions. The versatile attacker netted Celtic’s first goal of the evening last night as they beat Dundee United to extend their lead over Rangers to 16 points.
