Head-to-head record: The Black & Yellow U23s and SV Wehen Wiesbaden have met in 13 matches to date. BVB have only won once, a 1-0 away victory on 20 September 2021. By contrast, the team from Hesse have emerged victorious seven times and the two teams have drawn five times. In the reverse fixture last December, Antonio Foti scored for Borussia in stoppage time to snatch a 2-2 draw.
From the U23s: Niklas Jessen and Jordi Paulina will miss out. Jessen suffered his third head injury in a short space of time in the game against Hannover, so the club are unwilling to take any risks. The injured Paulina had made progress in his rehab, but has now suffered a setback and will no longer be available for the team this season. After the two defeats against Aue and Hannover II, the U23s are in 15th place in the table with 43 points and still have their fate in their own hands as they seek to avoid relegation. "The scenario hasn't changed much. We now have to take the important step of securing another win. The boys are performing well and are keen to make up some ground," says coach Jan Zimmermann. The U23s are looking for another three points to increase the gap on VfB Stuttgart II, who currently occupy 17th place with 40 points, the first direct relegation spot. Their direct rivals will be their opponents at the Rote Erde next week.
Facts and figures about the opposition: SV Wehen Wiesbaden were delighted during the week as the team qualified for the final of the Hessenpokal with a 1-0 win over FSV Frankfurt. In the league, SVWW have been in good form in front of their own fans: the Hessians are unbeaten in four home games. "The squad has a good mixture and a lot of quality. Reaching the final will also give them another boost,’ said Zimmermann about the opposition. Depending on the outcome of other games, Wiesbaden could be in with a chance of securing survival in the 3. Liga on Saturday.
