Yesterday, it emerged that Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester City had begun negotiations over a potential deal that would see Savinho sign for Spurs. Late last night, Fabrizio Romano relayed a report from Matteo Moretto on X thay broke that news. Now it has been reported that Manchester City could potentially move for RB Leipzig’s versatile attacking midfielder Xavi Simons or Real Madrid winger Rodrygo if Savinho leaves the club. It now seems that City are moving quickly to cover all possibilities if Savinho does depart that club.
David Ornstein and Guillermo Rai have reported for The Athletic that Tottenham have approached Manchester City over the possibility of signing Savinho. Furthermore, The Athletic reports that Tottenham and City discussed a package worth up to £43.3 million to sign Savinho. The Athletic reports that Manchester City would want significantly more to sell the Brazilian international. Lastly, it is also reported that Savinho is open to a move to Tottenham.
If Manchester City did sell Savinho, they would be in the market for another winger. Savinho would have likely played on the right wing. Oscar Bobb, Rayan Cherki, Phil Foden, and Bernardo Silva can all play that position. If Savinho did leave Pep Guardiola’s squad, it would need another winger. Cherki, Foden, and Bernardo Silva will likely all play considerable time in central roles. Now two reports have named Xavi Simons and Rodrygo as potential Manchester City targets.
Fabrizio Romano has reported that City are considering a move for Real Madrid winger Rodrygo. Furthermore, Romano reports that Pep Guardiola is a big fan of the Brazilian international. Lastly, Fabrizio Romano reports that Real Madrid would let Rodrygo leave the club if he wants for a transfer fee of around €100 million.
Sacha Tavolieri reports that Manchester City could be set to rival Chelsea for the signing of Xavi Simons. Furthermore, Tavolieri reports that City have contacted Xavi Simons’ agent over a potential move to the Etihad.
Any City move for Rodrygo or Xavi Simons would depend on Savinho leaving the club. That domino is the one that likely has to fall first. But if Savinho is open to leaving Pep Guardiola’s side, it is highly likely that he will. City typically don’t keep players who are open to leaving the club.
Rodrygo or Xavi Simons would be a fine replacement for Savinho. They are both proven performers at the highest level. All of a sudden, a big week lies ahead for Manchester City. Just when it seemed that it would be a quiet ending to the transfer window in terms of incomings at Etihad, another big move may be on the cards for Pep Guardiola’s side.
