The KNVB have announced that Go Ahead Eagles will have to share the names of two supporters who were seen making problematic gestures during Sunday’s match against AZ Alkmaar. The pair will reportedly receive a five-year stadium ban and a fine.
One fan made racist remarks against AZ attacker Ibrahim Sadiq by portraying a monkey and making monkey sounds. The other stormed the field when AZ players thanked their fans and wanted to have their picture taken with a banner honouring a deceased supporter. The Go Ahead supporter was taken off the field by stewards.
Racist statements and field entry are punishable by five-year stadium bans, plus a fine that varies by age. An adult must pay a sum of 450 euros. Suspects can appeal the punishment, after which a KNVB committee will assess the case. After this, the next step is to go to court.
“But in these cases, the evidence is pretty clear,” said a KNVB spokesperson. “One is on the field, and the other is gesturing to a player. That can be seen in the images.”
