Tow former Chelsea goalkeepers have fired shots at the Chelsea owners in the space of just two days with some quotes.
The news comes after Chelsea beat ES Tunis 3-0 early on Wednesday morning in the Club World Cup in America after Blues head coach Enzo Maresca named a rotated starting Xl to rest a few players.
Chelsea needed to avoid a defeat to progress to the knockout rounds of the competition, and they did that with ease in the end against an opposition that they were just much better than in terms of quality.
Marc Cucurella got a deserved rest in the game, with Josh Acheampong starting at left back instead, but before the game, the Spanish international was expecting another tough game. But it was far from that for Chelsea in the end.
Goalkeeper Marcus Bettinelli left Chelsea for Manchester City this summer and he’s explained why.
The Englishman told The Athletic that he decided to leave the club because he had the chance to work with ‘winners’ at the Etihad. Bit of a parting shot I feel…
He said: “I think obviously when you get a phone call from Man City and you’ve got a chance to work with winners and Pep (Guardiola), who’s won everything in his career, to learn from him, to see how he works, to see this mentality that the lads have in his team, it was near impossible for me to say no.
“I’ve always been a London boy… so leaving for myself and my family was obviously always a big decision but when Man City phone, these ideas kind of go out the window. You only really have one choice and that is to go because it’s a once in a lifetime opportunity.”
Former Chelsea goalkeeper Edouard Mendy has also taken some shots at the Chelsea owners this week as well after his move to Saudi.
Mendy said on his Saudi move:
“Some people will quickly jump to conclusions and say the only reason is money. From the start, I always said that when I left Chelsea, I knew I was joining another team where I could win everything – which was no longer the case at Chelsea.”
Both former Chelsea players speaking about leaving for winners or to win things! Ouch!
