Liverpool plan on keeping their academy graduate long term and according to The Athletic’s James Pearce, dialogue with the representatives of the 26-year-old remains open and ongoing as everyone works towards striking a deal.

The England star’s contract situation has gauged the interest of Real Madrid and the La Liga champions plan on moving for the Reds star if he does not pen a new deal at Anfield, reports Marca.

This is a move that could entice Alexander-Arnold as the Spanish club are the biggest in the world and it is a destination that would guarantee him trophies. The right-back has already won everything there is to win at Liverpool and many feel that the defender may want a new challenge.

Alexander-Arnold has now provided Liverpool fans with hope that he will sign a new deal at Anfield as the 26-year-old has admitted that he does not want his career to be defined by trophies.

Staying at Liverpool and breaking records, becoming captain and adding to the Premier League giants’ past successes could mean more to the local star over a move to Real Madrid, but only time will tell what decision he makes.

Trent Alexander-Arnold hints at Liverpool stay

Speaking in an interview with ITV, Alexander-Arnold has admitted that he does not want to define his career by silverware and admits he has considered the prospect of never winning another trophy.

“This was a conversation I had last (England) camp with (Eberechi) Eze when we were going to Ireland,” the Reds defender told ITV. “I said ‘You know, that there’s a chance I may never win another trophy in my career again’. There’s a chance of that. There’s a chance I win many, many more.

“And you’ll only know the morning after you retire. You’ll look at yourself in the mirror and you’ll have a feeling of either regret or satisfaction of what you have achieved.”

The England star continued by stating: “But I don’t think you can value that on trophies and medals or goals and assists; anything like that.

“It’s more (that) I give it absolutely everything from start to finish and I’ve put everything into it.

“And as long as I can say that I tried to get better every single day, I tried to be the best player I could be for the team and I tried to help the team win as many games as possible, and I believe that I maximised the potential that everyone told me from a very young age that I had, then I’ll be more than satisfied.”
