Ronald Araujo renewed his contract with FC Barcelona in January, but it came with a lowered release clause valid for the first two weeks of the transfer window.
With that period now behind us, the release clause, worth around €65 million, is no longer valid. However, speculations regarding a possible departure continue to persist.
After all, Barcelona still need a major sale, and the option of Marc-Andre ter Stegen leaving is no longer an option. As such, a big departure in August is not ruled out with Araujo being a potential candidate.
Now, according to Fichajes, Tottenham Hotspur have made initial enquiries into a possible transfer for Ronald Araujo, aware of his international profile and top-level experience.

The north London giants, who won the UEFA Europa League last season, are seeking to bolster their defence with a player who brings both physical presence and leadership and see Araujo as a good fit.
However, Spurs also understand that this will not be a straightforward deal, as Barcelona are not prepared to let him go easily, even if they are open to negotiations.
From the player’s side, a change of scenery is not ruled out, particularly if he continues to have a reduced role like he did in the second half of the last season after his return from injury.
Tottenham can offer Araujo regular playing time, continuity, and a fresh challenge in a league well-suited to his playing style.
Whether there is any progress on this in the coming weeks, or if it is only a passing rumour, remains to be seen.
