Tottenham Hotspur are pushing to finalise the signing of Eberechi Eze from Crystal Palace, with chairmen Daniel Levy and Steve Parish now holding direct talks.
The England international has already agreed personal terms with Spurs, leaving only the fee between the clubs as the final obstacle.
Journalist Fabrizio Romano claims Levy and Parish are in contact today, with Tottenham ready to offer £55 million plus a further £5mn in add-ons.
Eze informed Palace last week that he wanted to make the move to north London.
The 27-year-old has emerged as a priority target for Spurs following James Maddison’s long-term injury and the departure of Heung-min Son to Los Angeles FC earlier this month.
Eze’s versatility and creativity have made him a standout option for Thomas Frank as he prepares for a Champions League campaign in his first season as Tottenham manager.
Palace remain reluctant to lose their talisman but accept that a sale is likely if a suitable replacement can be secured.
They have identified Leicester City’s Bilal El Khannouss and Club Brugge’s Christos Tzolis as possible signings if Eze departs.
Parish is pushing for a larger portion of the fee to be paid up front so the Eagles can immediately reinvest.
Eze’s release clause of £67.5m expired earlier this summer, giving Palace more leverage in negotiations.
Levy is seeking to keep the deal closer to £55m while structuring add-ons to bridge the gap.
Both chairmen have reputations as stubborn negotiators, with Levy known for extracting maximum value for Spurs and Parish for resisting bids until his valuation is met.
The situation has echoes of Palace’s previous high-profile sales, including Aaron Wan-Bissaka to Manchester United and Wilfried Zaha to Galatasaray.
Spurs are confident an agreement will be reached, with optimism that Eze could even be registered before the weekend’s clash with Manchester City.
Eze featured in Palace’s goalless draw with Chelsea on the opening weekend, but sources indicate he remains determined to leave Selhurst Park.
