Tottenham Hotspur do still want to sign Mathys Tel on a permanent deal, despite him being set to arrive on loan first, according to journalist Dean Jones.
Spurs have managed to convince Tel to change his mind over joining them and he is travelling to London to seal a loan switch from Bayern Munich.
They had been ready to pay €60m to sign him and agreed a deal with Bayern Munich earlier in the window, only for Tel to refuse the move.
And they have not given up thoughts of taking him to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium permanently.
However, Spurs accept that they will have to take a different route to get there.
It is unclear if there will be any option to buy contained in the loan deal, but Tel will have the final say regardless over who he signs for in the summer.
The attacker may want to be convinced about Spurs’ ambitions, especially given they lie in the bottom half of the Premier League table.
Spurs are now racing against the clock to make sure they get Tel in through the door before the window closes.
