Real Madrid could have an opportunity to strengthen their defence with the potential signing of Christian Romero, as the Tottenham Hotspur centre-back is reportedly open to making the move to Spain.

According to an update from Fichajes, the Argentine defender is willing to make the necessary efforts to join Los Blancos, with uncertainty surrounding his contract situation in North London.

Romero’s future at Tottenham has come under question due to the lack of progress on a possible contract renewal.

With his current deal entering its final two years, Spurs risk losing one of their most important players if they fail to secure his long-term commitment.

Adding to this uncertainty is Tottenham’s inconsistent performance in the Premier League, which puts their chances of qualifying for next season’s Champions League at risk.

Romero willing to make the effort

At 26, Romero is a key figure in Ange Postecoglou’s defensive setup, but Tottenham’s inability to establish themselves as a consistent presence in Europe’s elite competitions may push him to seek a new challenge.

If Real Madrid show genuine interest, the World Cup winner with Argentina would be more than willing to join Carlo Ancelotti’s squad.

Tottenham, aware of the potential risk of losing Romero for a lower fee in the future, could consider selling him if he refuses to sign a contract extension.

However, they are expected to demand a substantial transfer fee, which could make negotiations challenging for Real Madrid.

Real Madrid want a defender

The Spanish giants are assessing several defensive reinforcements, with young prospect Dean Huijsen already on their radar.

However, Romero’s top-level experience and aggressive playing style make him an attractive alternative.

With the summer transfer window approaching, the situation surrounding Romero’s future is expected to gain more clarity.

If Real Madrid decide to make a serious approach, Tottenham will have to act quickly—either by convincing their star defender to stay with a lucrative new contract or by accepting his departure while they can still demand a high transfer fee.
