Chelsea are giving fresh consideration to a summer move for Sporting Lisbon striker Viktor Gyokeres according to Ben Jacobs.

The Blues have failed to sign a top quality striker under the Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital ownership much to the frustration of supporters.

Nicolas Jackson has done a good job, but it’s clear he needs help, and the Blues once again opted against signing a forward in January.

Chelsea to Gyokeres deal fresh consideration

The Blues pursued Victor Osimhen for most of the summer but were unable to agree a deal, whilst they pulled the plug on a move for Samu Omorodion at the last minute.

Jackson made a good start to the season and has nine league goals to his name, but the 23-year-old hasn’t scored in 2025 and is now sidelined until April with a hamstring injury.

Back-up striker Marc Guiu is also out, which leaves Chelsea with a striker crisis, although the position is said to be a priority in the summer.

Chelsea have a strong interest in Liam Delap and he’s set to leave Ipswich regardless of if they stay up, whilst the Blues are also keeping a close eye on Benjamin Sesko.

However, there’s another striker on their radar and Jacobs has reported Chelsea are giving fresh consideration to a move for Gyokeres.

He wrote in his GIVEMESPORT column:

“Sporting’s Viktor Gyökeres has come under fresh consideration despite being ruled out in January 2024.

“Along with his excellent form, part of the reason why is because the Swedish striker will be able to leave for around €70m – €30m less than his release clause.”

Gyokeres is one of the best strikers in Europe right now, but the Blues would certainly face competition from a host of the continent’s top clubs, and to have any chance they would have to offer Champions League football.

The Sweden international has scored 34 goals in 36 appearances in all competitions and is under contract with the Portuguese giants until 2028.
