Mikel Arteta remains a master at keeping secrets

People have been wondering for days and all throughout the international break about the condition of Jurrien Timber and Bukayo Saka. Both were injury doubts and Mikel Arteta remained coy when asked whether they were in with a chance to start against Liverpool. But as usual, Arteta managed to fool everyone and when the team news came out, both were in the starting XI. In an age where it’s difficult to keep many things secret, The Spaniard does a great job of it.

Bukayo Saka was straight back at it

Despite being absent for the last two games through injury, Saka showed no sign of needing time to regain his form. He was absolutely unstoppable and scored the first goal, a beautiful take and cut inside to beat Andy Robertson, followed up with a powerful near post finish. He was a thorn in the Liverpool side all game.

Andy Robertson and Alexis Mac Allister struggled to contain Arsenal

Despite Liverpool being so strong defensively this season, they struggled today and no players more so than Mac Allister and Robertson. Saka in particular had the beating of them for the full 90 minutes and Liverpool didn’t have many answers.

Thomas Partey imperious from right back

Partey dominated the midfield battle, even though he started the game at right back. He constantly broke up attacks, shielding his backline. He has the most interceptions in the Premier League this season and was fantastic, stopping Curtis Jones and Ryan Gravenberch from having much of an impact.

Liverpool showed a never say die attitude

They were down twice in the game but twice they came back to equalise. Jurgen Klopp may have left the club but the attitude he instilled in the team clearly hasn’t. The equaliser from Mohamed Salah in the 81st minute could be crucial come the end of the season.
