Chelsea target Liam Delap will wait until the end of the season to see who has European or Champions League football before deciding his next club according to Ben Jacobs.

The Blues are braced for another busy summer and could fund their business by selling as many as seven or eight players.

Chelsea face a critical summer with the club looking to sign a striker, centre back and right footed attacker to strengthen Enzo Maresca’s squad.

Delap to decide next club at end of the season

Chelsea have failed to sign a striker over the last two windows and have paid the price this season for not having an alternative to Nicolas Jackson.

A striker has to be the main priority when the window opens, and the Blues are said to have a five man shortlist of targets.

Chelsea have been linked with the likes of Benjamin Sesko and Hugo Ekitike, but the strongest links have been to Delap, with Jacobs now providing an update on his future.

He took to X.com and said:

“Unlike Cunha, understand Delap will wait until the end of the season and assess which suitors have European and/or #UCL football.

“Delap’s release clause will be £30m once Ipswich are officially relegated. Chelsea another of his leading suitors.”

Delap has impressed for Ipswich with 12 goals in his first Premier League season, whilst Enzo Maresca has praised the 22-year-old on a number of occasions this season.

Maresca knows Delap well having coached him in the Manchester City academy, and he’s believed to be putting pressure on Chelsea to sign the striker.

European or Champions League football is going to be key, with the Blues still in the running to finish in the top five despite their difficult fixtures.

Chelsea are in the last four of the Conference League, which if they win will give them Europa League football, whilst they might have to hope United don’t win the Europa League in the event the Blues miss out on the top five.
