On matchday 19 of the 2022/23 Bundesliga season, Borussia Dortmund forward Karim Adeyemi set a new league record.

As Die Schwarzgelben hammered Freiburg 5-1 at Signal Iduna Park, the 21-year-old Germany international became the division's fastest player, at least since extensive records began in 2011, after racking up a speed of 22.77 mph. The youngster has pace to burn, as he showed in his side's comprehensive victory.

The official speed is still some way off the world record set by Jamaican sprinter Usain Bolt (27.33 mph), but there is no doubt Adeyemi is one of the world's fastest players.

10. Nathan Ngoumou, 22.47 mph

Ngoumou has not pulled up many trees since his move from Toulouse to Borussia Monchengladbach during the 2022 summer transfer window. Still, he has at least written himself into the annals of the club's history.

During Die Fohlen's 2-1 defeat to Union Berlin at the Stadion An der Alten Forsterei in October, the 22-year-old Frenchman became the club's fastest-ever player, stopping the clock at 22.47 mph. Let's see if he can translate that pace into something more substantial in the future.

9. Erling Haaland, 22.56 mph

Is there anything Haaland can't do? Not only did the Norway international terrorise defences during his time at Dortmund, scoring 86 goals in 89 matches, but he was also no stranger to breezing past opponents.

His fastest speed came during a 1-0 over Arminia Bielefeld shortly before his transfer to Manchester City, when he clocked in at 22.56 mph. So far in the English top tier, he has only managed a top speed of 22.51 mph.

8. Kevin Schade, 22.60 mph

Schade only made 36 appearances for Freiburg before his loan move to Premier League outfit Brentford, but that was enough time to see him come in at number eight on this list.

His record came in Freiburg's 3-1 victory over Greuther Furth, when no one could keep up with his speed of 22.60 mph. It will be interesting to see whether he can match or surpass that in England.

7. Sheraldo Becker, 22.61 mph

Suriname international Becker has been one of Union Berlin's star performers during the 2022/23 campaign as they go in search of a Champions League qualification spot, but his top speed actually came during the 2021/22 term.

He hit a speed of 22.61 mph as Die Eisernen were held to a 1-1 draw by Stuttgart, a game in which current Premier League strikers Taiwo Awoniyi and Sasa Kalajdzic scored for Union and Stuttgart respectively.

6. Leon Bailey, 22.62 mph

Aston Villa fans have only seen glimpses of Bailey's talent and potential since his transfer from Bayer Leverkusen in August 2021, including his undeniable speed.

Given the number of top-level sprinters Jamaica has produced, there must be something in the water in the Caribbean country, as Reggae Boyz international Bailey registered the sixth-fastest Bundesliga speed of all time (22.62mph) during Leverkusen's 2-0 defeat to Hertha Berlin during the 2019/20 season.

5. Achraf Hakimi, 22.67 mph

Morocco international Hakimi has since shown his blistering pace at Inter Milan, Paris Saint-Germain and for the Atlas Lions at the 2022 World Cup, but he first became known to a broader audience during his stint in Dortmund.

The former Real Madrid ace actually held the overall record for a few months when he raced past the proverbial speed gun at 22.67 mph during BVB's 5-0 hammering of Union Berlin in 2020. He had already broken the record shortly before, too, when he hit 22.49 mph against RB Leipzig.

4. Alphonso Davies, 22.69 mph

That Canada international Davies is a speedster will come as a surprise to no one - Chelsea fans are probably not yet over the time the Bayern Munich star left Blues defenders in his wake during the Bavarians' 3-0 Champions League victory at Stamford Bridge in 2020.

On the day Bayern secured the 2019/20 Bundesliga title, against Werder Bremen, Davies registered a speed of 22.69 mph - for almost every other player in Germany, that would be unstoppable.

3. Moussa Diaby, 22.69 mph

Diaby was a January transfer target for Newcastle United, and when you consider how he combines goalscoring and dribbling ability with pace, it is not hard to understand why.

He is the second-fastest player during the 2022/23 campaign, clocking in at 22.69 mph during Leverkusen's 1-1 draw with Wolfsburg. It remains to be seen whether his speed rocks up in the Premier League in the future.

2. Jeremiah St. Juste, 22.76 mph

St. Juste, who now plays his football for Sporting Lisbon in Portugal, is the only defender to feature on this list. He set the previous record while playing for Mainz 05 during the 2021/22 campaign.

His top speed of 22.76 mph came during Die Nullfunfer's 2-1 defeat to Union Berlin during Matchday seven. That, amongst other things, helped earn him a move to a Champions League outfit.

1. Karim Adeyemi, 22.77 mph

And so, we arrive at Adeyemi, who is the new record-holder. The youngster's first few months at Dortmund were not the easiest, but he now seems to have announced his arrival in the Bundesliga.

Not only did he set a new speed record during the Freiburg win, but he also scored his first home league goal for his new club, which he celebrated in front of the Yellow Wall. Let's see if he can go even faster now he has settled in.
