Leicester City's Abdul Fatawu has pleaded for patience from fans who booed their team from the pitch following their 2-1 defeat at Preston North End.

Leicester City winger Abdul Fatawu has urged the club's fans to show patience after the team was booed from the pitch following an away defeat at Preston North End.

Foxes supporters were far from impressed with what they saw at Deepdale as they struggled to create clear-cut chances to test former goalkeeper Daniel Iversen, and after being defeated thanks to a late Milutin Osmajic goal, many Leicester players received a negative reaction, with footage showing Harry Winks heading down the tunnel whilst his team-mates faced the music from the crowd.

The defeat was Leicester's second in a row, following their penalty shootout defeat to Huddersfield Town in the EFL Cup during midweek. They'd started their season the previous Sunday with a less-than-inspiring 2-1 win against Sheffield Wednesday, and it seems clear that Foxes fans are less than happy with what they've seen from their team so far.

After the match, Ghanaian winger Fatawu had a message for those fans who were unhappy with their team's performance, and especially those who left Deepdale before the final whistle.

Posting to Instagram the day after the loss, Fatawu expressed his disappointment at fans leaving the game early, saying: "So disappointed about the game yesterday. But as we says and believe that FOXES 🦊 never quit then is too early at this stage of the season seeing fans leave stadium so early when we are down by 1.

"This is the best time we need you, You can’t be celebrating win with the team and don’t want to loose with the team. This is a game of football and you can’t be winning every time so we need everyone in both side so you can be proud to celebrate victories with the team, this is the time to stick together to be strong to make this team get what they deserve thanks to all the traveling fans for you amazing support but we need more."

But he did also have a few words of encouragement for his fellow winger, 16-year-old Jeremy Monga, whose 67th-minute equaliser for the Foxes was his first goal for the club, breaking the Championship record in the process for its youngest ever goalscorer.

Losing to Preston was a second successive defeat for Leicester City, and a third underwhelming performance from the Foxes under new manager Marti Cifuentes so far this season.

Leicester took over 2,500 fans to Lancashire for this match, but it was clear before the final whistle that many of them are unhappy at the lack of progress on the pitch following last season's disastrous relegation from the Premier League.

While some might criticise the player's decision to be critical of the behaviour of fans at this time of the year, Fatawu's post does also highlight that players are fully aware of what's going on in the stands during matches.

But while Leicester's players may want better support from the fans during matches, fans may well respond by saying that they need a reason to get behind the team, and that they didn't see it on Saturday.

And Fatawu's congratulations for Jeremy Monga over his goal do hint at the bright spot of the afternoon for Foxes fans.

At 16 years and 37 days old, Monga became the youngest player to score in the Championship ever with his 67th-minute equaliser.
