Timber backs Arsenal to do ‘amazing things’ this season after strong start | OneFootball

Jurrien Timber says he is confident that Arsenal can achieve “amazing things” this season.

The 23-year-old missed almost the entirety of last season through injury after joining the club last summer but has started the last five Premier League games for the Gunners.

He helped his side to a 4-2 win over Leicester City on Saturday, setting up Gabriel Martinelli’s opener.

And the Dutchman says his side’s start to the season has shown they can achieve big things this season.

He said: “We’ve been through a lot in the last few weeks. Things happened in matches that we didn’t expect or could be prepared for, but the team showed again and again that we’re ready for everything that’s coming. We have to be if we want to achieve amazing things this season.

“We have a good, deep squad that can achieve amazing things if we keep going like we are and like the team was already doing for the last two years.”

Timber has been used as both a left-back and a right-back this season, and says he is happy to be versatile for boss Mikel Arteta though admits it was a surprise to be used on the left.

“Yeah, a bit to be honest,” he said when asked if playing at left-back was a surprise.

“It happened in pre-season, before Barcelona in training I played left-back and all of a sudden I was like ‘Okay, there’s a chance I’ll play left-back tomorrow. That’s okay, just do my thing and enjoy it’.

“I’m just happy when I play. I think it’s a good thing being versatile and playing in multiple positions.”
