MIAMI – The Leagues Cup 2025 kicked off on Tuesday with six matches as part of Phase One of the Concacaf-sanctioned competition between MLS and Liga MX clubs, as they battle for the crown and three spots in the 2026 Concacaf Champions Cup.

Every Liga MX club earned a victory over its MLS counterparts, outright or via the penalty shootout. FIFA World Cup winner Ángel Correa scored his first goals in a Tigres jersey to highlight the night.

Toluca FC  2 (4) - (2) 2 Columbus Crew

The Leagues Cup 2025 opener presented a 2-2 draw between reigning Liga MX Clausura 2025 winners Toluca FC and defending tournament champions Columbus Crew, with the Mexican side winning 4-2 on PKs, at Lower.com Field in Columbus, Ohio, USA.

Diego Rossi converted from the penalty spot in the 11’ to place Columbus Crew in the lead.

Max Arfsten doubled the lead for the hosts in the 48’ with a left-footed finish inside the box.

Paulinho struck twice in a span of ten minutes, in the 71’ and 80’, to level the scoring and send the match to penalties.

Toluca ultimately won 4-2 in the shootout to start with two points.

CF Montréal 1 (7) - (6) 1 Club León

CF Montréal and Club León tied 1-1, with the Canadians securing the additional point in penalties, at Stade Saputo in Montréal, Québec, Canada.

León opened the scoring in the 11’ through a header from Rogelio Funes Mori, with James Rodríguez delivering a pinpoint assist.

Prince Owusu equalized for Montréal in the 62’ with a finish to the far post from the left end of the box.

Montréal then won the shootout, 6-5, to earn the additional point.

New York City FC 0-3 Club Puebla

Club Puebla defeated New York City FC 3-nil at Sports Illustrated Stadium in Harrison, New Jersey, USA.

Puebla took an early lead in the 2’ through a finish from Juan Fedorco inside the penalty area.

Emiliano Gómez scored from the center of the box in the 38’ to double Puebla’s lead.

Owen González closed out the win for the visitors with a goal in the 88’.

Tigres UANL 4-1 Houston Dynamo

Tigres UANL claimed a 4-1 victory against Houston Dynamo in front of a sellout crowd at Shell Energy Stadium in Houston, Texas, USA.

Ángel Correa handed the Liga MX side the lead right before the half in the 45+3’, with a right-footed hit to the near post from outside the box. The goal marked the Argentine’s first since joining Tigres from Atlético de Madrid.

Ondřej Lingr tied the match for the Dynamo in the 47’ with a finish from inside the box.

Diego Lainez reestablished the lead for Tigres in the 63’ with a left-footed rocket from long range.

Correa secured his brace in the 70’, before Ozziel Herrera struck in the 90+7’ for the final 4-1 result.

Los Angeles FC 1 (10) - (11) 1 Mazatlán FC

Los Angeles FC and Mazatlán FC played to a 1-1 draw in regular time, with the Liga MX side claiming the additional point 11-10 on PKs, at BMO Stadium in Los Angeles, California, USA.

David Martínez scored the go-ahead goal for LAFC in the 29’ with a chipped finish from the top of the box.

Fábio Gomes tied the match in the 31’ with a crossed finish from the right side of the box.

Mazatlán ultimately won the penalty shootout 11-10 in dramatic fashion to claim the additional point.

Pachuca 3-2 San Diego FC

Tuesday’s action concluded with Pachuca winning 3-2 against San Diego FC at Snapdragon Stadium in San Diego, California, USA.

Victor Guzmán gave Los Tuzos the lead in the 23’.

Alexéi Domínguez doubled Pachuca’s lead in the 45+3’ with a left-footed finish from the top of the box.

Domínguez secured his brace in the 68’ with a long-range effort to the top-left corner.

Emmanuel Boateng and Luca Bombino scored in the 88’ and 90’+10’, respectively, as San Diego fell short in its comeback efforts.
