Manchester United travel to Goodison Park for the last time tomorrow lunchtime looking for a much-needed Premier League win.
The two sides have faced each other 214 times in one of England’s most historical fixtures.
The Red Devils have 96 victories to their name and there have been 47 draws.
Everton have a fine record of 71 wins against the Red Devils.
Here are three storylines to look into.
United on a good streak versus Everton
The Red Devils have won the last six consecutive matches versus the Toffees.
In fact, Everton have not scored a goal against United since 2022 when the Red Devils came away with a 2-1 win at Goodison Park after goals from Antony and Cristiano Ronaldo.
Probably United’s most impressive home performance under Ruben Amorim came against Everton on the 1st December when a brace from Joshua Zirkzee and Marcus Rashford gave United a 4-0 win.
The Goodison Park team have actually only won one of the last 13 matches against the Red Devils, a 1-0 win against Ralf Rangnick’s beleaguered side in April 2022.
Return of David Moyes
When United faced Everton in December, they were floundering under Sean Dyche but they have recently very much turned a corner under David Moyes and are now ahead of United in the table.
Moyes was named Sir Alex Ferguson’s successor in 2013 but was sacked after only 10 months as he struggled to deal with being United’s manager.
The Scot will be looking to inflict more pain on his former team.
According to the BBC, “David Moyes has won his last two Premier League home games against Manchester United, beating them 1-0 and 2-0 with West Ham in May and December 2023.”
“He also won his last home league game against the Red Devils in charge of Everton, beating them 1-0 in August 2012.” Expect a low-scoring affair
Sadly for both sets of fans, neither Old Trafford nor Goodison Park sees a lot of goals.
Manchester United have embarrassingly failed to score in 10 different Premier League games this season.
The only team to have done this more often is Everton, who have failed to score 12 times. It’s the joint-most games in which the Red Devils have failed to score in a single season in the competition, along with 2004-05 and 2015-16.
Sadly, with 13 matches still to play, it seems highly likely that this record will be well broken.
The BBC also report that “Manchester United have scored just one first half goal in their last 10 Premier League games, with that a Bruno Fernandes penalty against Brighton in January.”
“It’s the longest run of games the club have ever had in the competition without scoring a non-penalty goal in the first half, overtaking a run of nine matches from February to May 2021.”
