Federico Dimarco, Matteo Darmian, and Davide Frattesi have thus far failed to replicate their Inter Milan form for Italy at EURO 2024.

This is the view in today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews. The newspaper does praise Nicolo Barella and Alessandro Bastoni for transfering their club form to the Azzurri.

It is no secret that Inter players form the spine of the Italy team at this summer’s Euros.

Italy coach Luciano Spalletti has spoken of a “block” of Nerazzurri players at the core of his team.

The aim is to transfer both the individual quality, and the tactical chemistry, of the Italian core of the side that won last season’s Serie A title in dominant fashion to the national team.

Therefore, all of Dimarco, Barella, and Bastoni have started all three of Italy’s group stage matches in Germany.

Then, both of Frattesi and Darmian have made starts for the Azzurri.

In the view of the Gazzetta, Barella and Bastoni have been a reliable bedrock for Italy at the Euros.

The former has been the Azzurri’s most consistent midfielder at the tournament.

And the latter has marshalled Italy’s defense as well as could be hoped in the transitional era away from Leonardo Bonucci and Giorgio Chiellini.

However, the other three have not quite lived up to the billing.

Dimarco has not scored or assisted a goal. He has also had some defensive struggles.

For the Gazzetta, Dimarco has looked sluggish at times.

And Darmian, who is virtually “Mr. Consistency” at club level, was not up to his usual standard against Croatia in Italy’s group stage opener.

The 34-year-old was defensively solid enough in a back three. But his passing looked a bit off.

And when Darmian switched to the left flank, he looked out of sorts.

Lastly, the Gazzetta argues, Frattesi has not had the kind of decisive influence that he often has in an Italy shirt.
